Hempels Diamond Varnish is a 2 component polyurethane varnish for use where hard, extremely durable and long lasting finish is required. This varnish is highly resistant to abrasion and chemicals, for the ultimate finish in durability and beauty on both internal and external wood, above the waterline.
When diluting stir carefully, do not shake the can as this will produce air bubbles in the varnish. If only part of the curing agent is to be used, do not remove the lid, but make two holes in the bottom of the can. After use, close the holes tightly with tape. The cans should be opened with care as there may be risk of overpressure, especially in the can containing the curing agent. Do not fix the lid on cans containing mixed paint.

The components should be mixed in a 2:1 (base:curing) ratio by volume.
New wood (except teak & plywood)
- Sand the surface
- Remove all dust
- Apply 1 coat of the Hempel Diamond Varnish, thinned with Hempel Thinner No. 2 (871) up to a maximum of 20-40%
- Apply 3 coats of undiluted Hempel Diamond Varnish
Plywood
- Sanding the surface
- Remove all dust
- Seal with Hempel Hempadur Sealer
- Apply 1 coat of the Hempel Diamond Varnish, thinned with Hempel Thinner No. 2 (871) up to a maximum of 20-40%
- Apply 3 coats of undiluted Hempel Diamond Varnish
Teak
- Sanding the surface
- Remove all dust
- Degrease the surface thoroughly with a suitable degreaser
- Apply 1 coat of the Hempel Diamond Varnish, thinned with Hempel Thinner No. 2 (871) up to a maximum of 20-40%
- Apply 3 coats of undiluted Hempel Diamond Varnish
Previously varnished wood
- Wash the surface with a suitable cleaning agent (do not use detergents unless thoroughly removed)
- If required, apply antimould treatment
- Apply 1 coat of the Hempel Diamond Varnish, thinned with Hempel Thinner No. 2 (871) up to a maximum of 20-40%
- Apply 3 coats of undiluted Hempel Diamond Varnish
Please note: Ammonia water may discolour oak, mahogany & teak.
The conventional spray can be thinned using the Hempel Thinner No. 6 (851) up to 30%. The brush can be thinned using Hempel Thinner No. 2 (871) up to 5%.
